'Battleground state of Mar-a-Lago': Trump to address media from his home Thursday
Donald Trump announced that he plans to speak to the nation in a “general news conference” from his Mar-a-Lago estate Thursday.
It follows several days during which he’s kept quiet, instead sending his vice presidential running mate on the road in an effort to counter his opponent Kamala Harris, who many experts say has been met with a surge of excitement from supporters.
A line of attack Trump’s team has relied upon heavily in recent days is an accusation that Harris is avoiding giving interviews or taking questions. Vance repeated the accusation several times Wednesday.
Trump has not held a news conference since his conviction in the New York City hush money criminal case on April 15, the New York Times reported.
But he has given interviews to Fox News and he took questions at a recent roundtable at the National Association of Black Journalists convention.
It’s unclear what he aims to discuss at Thursday's event, scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.

“I will be doing a General News Conference at 2:00 P.M. at Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach,” he wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
The venue of Trump’s home raised eyebrows, considering that his opponent and his running mate have been crisscrossing swing state battlegrounds including Pennsylvania and Michigan this week.
“Trump is trying hard to win the battleground state of Mar-a-Lago,” wrote USA Today contributor Windsor Mann.
He’s also so far refused to commit to a debate on ABC News in September that had been scheduled before President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris. He said it had been “terminated,” and suggested it happen on Fox News instead.
OnTruth Social Thursday, he suggested a debate would still go ahead.
“I will expose Kamala during the Debate the same way I exposed Crooked Joe, Hillary, and everyone else during Debates - Only I think Kamala will be easier!” he wrote.
