Coronation Street fans call out huge plot hole over Lauren Bolton’s premature baby
CORONATION Street fans have pointed out that one detail of Lauren’s sudden labour doesn’t make sense.
The troubled teen recently reappeared in Weatherfield after going missing and being presumed dead for months.
It turned out she was laying low after discovering she was pregnant with Joel Deering’s baby.
The abusive solicitor offered to pay her rent if she kept the baby a secret, and given she had recently been fired from her job at Roy’s Rolls before finding out she was expecting, Lauren accepted.
Lauren was planning to permanently relocate to Northern Ireland to start a new life and Joel even found her a bedsit.
But the villain secretly planned to get rid of their baby once and for all.
He bought medication to terminate the pregnancy, and managed to feed it to an unsuspecting Lauren, sending her into labour prematurely.
Her baby boy was left fighting for his life in an incubator after being born three months too soon.
However, Corrie fans have slammed the soap for being ‘unrealistic’ as doctors didn’t think to do a blood test and check if Lauren had been drugged.
One person complained: “You don’t go into labour 3 months early unless you’re super unlucky so why isn’t anyone trying to piece together that she’s been drugged or she took it herself. Like c’mon.”
Another added: “They’re idiots.”
However, some viewers defended the Coronation Street script writers, pointing out that sadly premature births do frequently happen without any outside interference.
Someone shared: “It’s an unfortunate fact of life that babies are born prematurely. Lauren is young, it’s her first baby, she hasn’t been taking care of herself, and she’s had more than her share of difficulty and stress.
“There is really no reason for anyone to suspect she was drugged.”
A second added: “We know Joel drugged her because we saw it happen, but the hospital staff don’t know that and they wouldn’t look for it.
“Premature labour, miscarriages and stillbirths aren’t unusual. There’s no reason for the hospital staff to start doing tox screens to see if she was poisoned.
“They’d do blood tests and look at the usual illicit drugs/alcohol levels, but they’re not going to screen for medication.”
