Monty, 69, took to social media as he gave his devoted followers a sneak preview of filming.

He’s no stranger to Instagram, as he regularly posts updates to his grid page from his countryside estate.

The gardening specialist was hard at work making new episodes of the show for viewers to watch on BBC Two.

However, he made sure to let fans know who the ‘real star’ of Gardener’s World is.

The veteran TV presenter posted an image of the set of the hit BBC show.

Three members of the crew were standing by an assortment of equipment, which included cameras and lighting gear.

Even though Monty faced the lenses, his beloved Golden Retriever was the main focus.

Ned was spotted in front of all the cameras and crew as he lied down in the centre of the garden path.

Monty made light of the situation as he captioned the image: “Ned with his best friend.”

Later, he posted a closer look at his canine companion, who stood in the garden with a huge smile.

He held a worn down green tennis ball in his mouth as Monty claimed this was ‘his best friend’.

His devoted fanbase couldn’t help but get sentimental as they remembered his other dogs who previously died, Nellie and Nigel.

One fan wrote: “Just like Nigel bless him,” along with a green heart emoji.

A second noted: “I hope you get him a lady retriever companion soon to fill the void left by the gorgeous Nellie.”

Who is Monty Don's wife Sarah?

Monty met his wife Sarah while studying at university and they married on July 29, 1983.

The pair ran their own couture costume jewellery business from the early 80s to 1987.

Their pieces were sold in 30 countries worlwide, featured in Vogue, and boasted celebrity fans including the now late Princess Diana and Michael Jackson.

The brand – Monty Don Jewellery – was stocked in Harrods and Harvey Nichols, and the couple went on to open their own store in London’s exclusive Knightsbridge.

Monty previously told the Independent that Sarah was “75 per cent of the designing brains” while he was the salesman.

Sadly, the couple’s business went under in 1987 following the Wall Street Crash and they faced bankruptcy.

However, since then, Sarah has switched her attention to writing and is an author.

Monty, meanwhile, has forged his own successful career as a horticultural expert, writer and TV presenter.

“A gorgeous photo of Ned and he’s clearly follow in Nigel’s footsteps!”, remarked a third fan.

As a fourth stated: “Nigel would be proud of him. Definitely following in his paw steps with the tennis balls.”

And a fifth added: “He’s turning into a Nigel.”

His fans previously paid tribute to Nigel after Monty recently shared another poignant image of Ned.
