Tottenham want a new striker

It is quite clear that Spurs are looking to bring a number nine through the door ahead of the new season and reports over the last week have suggested that Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke has now emerged as the club’s top target (CaughtOffside).

However, David continues to be mooted as a target for the Lilywhites, with the Canadian international, who is down to the final year of his contract at Lille, thought to be looking for a fresh challenge.

Earlier this week, L’Equipe (via GFFN) claimed that Spurs are continuing to circle over the 24-year-old, who had allegedly turned down a chance to move to AS Roma this summer.

Lille need a replacement for Jonathan David

Letang has now admitted that David’s future is up in the air but he insisted that the striker’s departure from the Pierre Mauroy Stadium is far from a certainty this summer.

When asked about the former Gent man’s future, the Lille president told L’Equipe (as relayed by Sport Witness): “Everything is possible. A little less than a month remains. He’s focused on our two European matches which are coming up with the objective of qualifying for the Champions League.

“Lille don’t need to sell. The club have regained sound management. It allows us to approach particular situations calmly. The Champions League is not vital for us, fortunately. One thing is certain: there will be no departure if we do not have the capacity to replace him.”

Letang is trying to make it seem like Lille are not desperate to sell David in order to ensure clubs do not lowball them.

However, the reality is that the Ligue 1 club are not in a strong position since the striker seemingly has no intention of signing a new contract.

An offer of around £20m-£25m would likely be enough to secure the Canadian this summer.
