NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Travelers should prepare for more flight delays in and out the area’s three major airports on Thursday, according to the Federal Flight Association.

The agency’s forecasters say low clouds will impact the tri-state’s airports while thunderstorms will cause problems in other parts of the country.

Newark Airport has alerted that flights will have ground delays of over an hour starting at 2 p.m. on Thursday, likely lasting until 11 p.m. Departure delays are also climbing up to 45 minutes and are expected to increase throughout the day.

Travelers at JFK Airport will experience delays of up to 30 minutes but that number will likely go up as the day continues. The FAA also reports that ground stops and delays could be possible at LaGuardia and JFK airports late Thursday.

New York City and New Jersey are expected to get the brunt of Tropical Storm Debby on Friday. Ground stops were issued for the area’s three major airports on Tuesday when thunderstorms flooded the area.
