Capital One Tower in Lake Charles to be demolished Sept. 7

Lloyd D. Nabors Demolition, the company hired for the demolition project, says the implosion of the Capital One Tower will be Saturday Sept. 7.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY) -- A date has been set for the implosion of the tallest building in Lake Charles.

In a Facebook post, Lloyd D. Nabors Demolition, the company hired for the demolition project, says the implosion of the Capital One Tower will be Saturday Sept. 7.

The building has been a blight to the city, since it was heavily damaged during the 2020 hurricanes. It became a symbol of the destruction of Hurricane Laura, and has been vacant and unusable since.

Demolition has begun on the building's atrium, which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Rita.

The City of Lake Charles says during the implosion no one will be allowed within the exclusion zone, but the public will be allowed to view the implosion anywhere outside of the exclusion zone.
