British chart-toppers robbed of £35K worth of laptops and cameras during video shoot in Ibiza
CLEAN BANDIT have been targeted by burglars – losing £35,000 worth of tech and cash during a work trip to Ibiza.
The chart-topping trio flew to the White Isle at the weekend to work on the video for new single Cry Baby with superstar DJ David Guetta.
And hours later they were the victim of a shocking robbery.
In an exclusive chat, band member Grace Chatto said: “We filmed with David in the studio then we stayed at our friend’s house.
“Jack and Luke [Patterson] flew back to London because they had to edit the video, so luckily the footage was safe.
“But I was supposed to bring back the lenses. We went out for dinner, then, when we came back, someone had crowbarred the window and taken the lenses and laptops and cash.”
Grace, who is hopeful they will be able to claim their losses on insurance, added: “We were all quite scared sleeping there that night.
“But the main thing was that the footage was safe, because that would have been irreplaceable.”
Unfortunately for them, it wasn’t the only disaster to strike during the whirlwind trip ahead of the release of single Cry Baby today.
The track also features Anne-Marie, who the band previously worked with on 2016 chart-topper Rockabye.
The group produced, shot, edited and directed the latest video themselves.
And in a nod to the song title, they even made a headpiece which spouted tears for David.
But it didn’t go to plan.
Jack explained: “We were trying to make him look like he’s crying.
‘Abundance of energy’
“So we built this rig with tubes that go over his head and pump water down his face, like gushing tears.
“He had to wear this thing and it kind of exploded on him when he turned it on.
“So it was just like, ‘Oh god. What if we’ve blinded him?’. But he was all right.
“When Luke turned it on it just went crazy.”
Grace added of David: “I love him. I think he’s fantastic. He couldn’t believe we were making the video ourselves. He was like, ‘You guys are crazy!’. He said we should do one for him.”
The single has been four years in the making and it is an emotional one for Grace.
She said: “It’s about a lying boyfriend. The first verse is heartbreaking. And it’s also emotional because of the journey we’ve been on with the song, trying to get it out for so many years.”
In the decade since they scored their first No1, Rather Be, featuring Jess Glynne, the group have racked up nine more Top Ten singles.
Now they are raring to return to the charts and plan to drop their first album in six years in 2025.
Jack said: “We were planning to take a break before Covid. But it was then hard to get momentum back. So it’s taken us a really long time to recover from that. We’ve had a lot of time off, so now we’ve got an abundance of energy and we’ve just been writing so much.
“People like David Guetta are so inspiring to us.
“He’s so prolific and we just want to be like that. We want to get more and more of our music out.”

A source told The Sun: “Everyone on the project is so excited for Kate’s role. She is a superstar and her fans are going to love her taking on the all-action, Lara Croft-style lead.
“But to keep Lioness authentic, Kate needs to gain muscle so when she tears a strip off the baddies in the film, it looks the part. If she’s too slim, it won’t look realistic. Kate is a thorough professional and knows what is needed. She is doing everything to prepare herself, including adding some weight to her perfect frame.
“This will mark a major movie comeback for Kate and her fans will not be disappointed.”
Shooting on Lioness starts next month, based mainly around central London.
Kate recently returned from a health retreat in Mexico with her mum as she gears up for the movie, and shared this snap of herself in a swimsuit from the trip.
She wrote on Instagram: “The personalised health plans, delicious and nutritious meals and serene surroundings have left us feeling more balanced and energised and so grateful for what we have learned from their incredibly skilled practitioners.”

Revamp for Kesha tracks
KESHA has vowed to follow in Taylor Swift’s footsteps by rerecording her old music.
The singer celebrated 15 years since the release of her debut solo single TiKToK this week and said she hopes to remake it, given it was produced by music maestro Dr Luke, who she accused of sexual assault, which he denies.
She also intends to change the lyric “feeling like P. Diddy” to say “f*** P. Diddy”, as she has sung live, after he was accused of sexual abuse and rape, which he also denies.
In a post on X, she wrote: “I absolutely love the new lyric change. Yes it is permanent.
“I will rerecord it when I have legal rights to! Now, my first baby stands for so much.”
She added: “I remember making it fun and happy because that’s how I felt.
“That’s how this song STILL makes me feel, through it all, and those are emotions I want all of us to connect to.”

Fugees’ UK gigs safe
THE FUGEES’ Lauryn Hill has insisted their upcoming UK and Ireland tour will go ahead despite axing the US leg days before the first show.
The singer, who cancelled another tour in 2022, admitted ticket sales in the States had been low after she gained a reputation for turning up late or nixing performances.
The group are due to play in Dublin on October 7, followed by Cardiff, Manchester and London.
Lauryn said on Instagram: “I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.
