Tottenham are in talks over Dominic Solanke
Spurs are reported to be pressing ahead with a move to land Solanke, with various sources over the last few days revealing that the Lilywhites have now begun talks with Bournemouth over a deal (Fabrizio Romano).
In fact, HITC even reported on Tuesday that Spurs are willing to pay Dominic Solanke’s £65m release clause but they wish to do so in instalments rather than in one lump sum.
It was explained by Paul O’Keefe on the Last Word on Spurs earlier this week that Ange Postecoglou wants a well-rounded striker rather than just a top-class goalscorer, which is why the Lilywhites are leaning towards Solanke rather than Toney.
The stats don’t lie about Dominic Solanke
The data certainly bares that out, with Solanke finishing near the top of the pile among the strikers in the Premier League on a number of metrics last season.
Solanke had the most headed goals, offensive duels, interceptions, and progressive passes (%) out of all Premier League strikers last year.
He was also in the top three for expected goals, passes into the penalty area (%), non-penalty goals, goals, and more.
Spurs Web Opinion
While Toney is better on the ball than Solanke and is a more reliable goalscorer, there is no doubt that the Cherries star would be a much better fit for Postecoglou’s system.
