Tigard-Tualatin School District faces $3.7M suit for alleged on-campus assault

A Tualatin High School student filed a $3.7 million lawsuit against Tigard-Tualatin School District, claiming the district was negligent for not doing more to prevent her from being assaulted on campus during school.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A Tualatin High School student has filed a $3.7 million lawsuit against Tigard-Tualatin School District, claiming the district was negligent for not doing more to prevent her from being assaulted on campus during school.

The lawsuit, filed July 31, claims the student was sexually assaulted and raped in the school's gender-neutral bathrooms by another student in 2023, as first reported by The Oregonian.

The lawsuit argues the school has a responsibility to keep students safe, noting the district should have been aware of the accused student's behavior leading up to the incident and failed to supervise him.

According to the complaint, "many students," including the student accused of the assault, were “allowed to venture Tualatin High School hallways unsupervised" the day of the alleged incident.

This comes as Oregon is among the highest-ranking states for rape or attempted rape at school, the complaint said, citing the United States Department of Education.

KOIN 6 News reached out to the Tigard-Tualatin School District and has not heard back. This story will be updated if we receive a response.
