Two children injured after being ejected from truck bed in Wilton crash
WILTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office reported the arrest of a Wilton man following a rollover crash on Wednesday afternoon that left two children injured. Matthew Murry Jr., 40, is facing numerous charges.
On August 7 around 4:37 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a crash on Pettis Road. The ensuing investigation determined that Murry was driving a pickup truck heading west when he allegedly swerved to avoid a deer, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway, strike a pole, and overturn.
According to deputies, two children, ages 10 and seven, were riding in the truck's bed at the time of the collision, resulting in them being ejected from the vehicle. The Sheriff's Office says both children were taken to Albany Medical Center, where the 10-year-old was treated for fractures to the arm and collarbone, while the seven-year-old was tended to for non-life-threatening injuries.
A third passenger, a 22-year-old man in the front passenger seat, was uninjured in the incident. Murry was taken into custody at the scene and now faces the following charges:
- First-degree vehicular assault
- Two counts of aggravated DWI
- Operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.8% or greater
- Two counts of endangering the welfare of a child
- Multiple vehicle and traffic law violations
Murry was arraigned at the Wilton Town Court before being remanded to the Saratoga County Jail. He is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
