Is your Big Lots store closing? 10 stores to close in New York

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Hundreds of Big Lots stores are preparing to close as speculation that the company could file for bankruptcy looms.

The company originally announced in early July that 35 to 40 locations could be shut down this year, but that number grew substantially in their latest new SEC filing on July 31.

In the SEC filing, company leaders pointed to inflation and difficulties in competing, saying they had “a substantial doubt” in their ability to continue.

Big Lots has not released a complete list of stores that will be closed but many stores have banners on their web pages that read “closing this location” while alerting customers they could “save up to 20% off.”

New York stores with these banners on their web pages are:

  • Buffalo (Sloan and Linden Corners)
  • Canandaigua
  • Carle Place
  • Centereach
  • Ithaca
  • New Hartford
  • Plattsburgh
  • Poughkeepsie
  • Queensbury

Based on their individual web pages, the only Big Lots stores in New Jersey closing is in Woodbridge.

Big Lots has not said when these stores will close, and a representative did not immediately respond to Nexstar’s request for comment. It’s also unclear why Big Lots had selected these specific stores for closure.
