Donald Trump Falsely Claims 'Nobody Was Killed' During January 6 Insurrection, Says He Had a Bigger Crowd Than Martin Luther King Jr. in Rambling Press Conference

Donald Trump is making false claims in a bizarre new press conference.

The 78-year-old former President of the United States shocked viewers with a press conference on Thursday (August 8), during which he repeatedly lied and said that “nobody was killed” during the deadly January 6 insurrection led by his supporters at the Capitol in 2021.

“I think the people that if you look at Jan. 6, which a lot of people aren’t talking about very much, those people were treated very harshly when you compare them to other things that took place in this country where a lot of people were killed,” Trump said at Mar-a-Lago.

“Nobody was killed on Jan. 6. But I think the people of Jan. 6 were treated very unfairly.”

This is false: as the New York Times points out, at least 7 people died in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, including a Trump supporter, Ashli Babbitt, who was fatally shot by a Capitol Police officer.

He then strangely claimed he had a bigger crowd than Martin Luther King Jr. did during his infamous “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963.

“The biggest crowd I’ve ever spoken before was that day,” he said. “And I’ll tell you, it’s very hard to find a picture of that crowd…If you look at Martin Luther King, when he did his speech, his great speech, and you look at ours. Same real estate. Same everything. Same number of people, if not, we had more.

“We actually had more people. They said I had 25,000, and he had 1 million people. And I’m OK with it because I liked Dr. Martin Luther King,” Trump concluded.

He also came under fire after falsely making claims about Kamala Harris‘ race.
