When he was introduced prior to his run, the Botswana star performed the shivering celebration made famous by Chelsea ace Palmer.

Upon seeing Tebogo’s “cold” entrance, several fans online were convinced that he’d win.

One wrote: “Tebogo with the Cole Palmer – the race was over before it started.”

While a second commented: “TEBOGO HITS THE PALMER AND WINS THE GOLD!!!”

A third posted: “Tebogo did the Cole Palmer celebration before his race and went on to win the 200m Final over favourite Noah Lyles.

“The Cold Palmer influence is crazy.”

A fourth gushed: “Palmer influence wow.”

And another added: “The celebration is iconic.”

Tebogo’s mother Seratiwa tragically died in May.

After the race, he dedicated his win to her.

The victorious star poignantly said: “It was really a beautiful race for me.

“Mum is watching up there, and she’s really, really happy. I didn’t want to put the date of her death, because I’ll get emotional.

“I took about three weeks to a month without doing anything. It wasn’t really clicking for me that she’s really gone.”

Team USA star Kenny Bednarek claimed silver, while Lyles earned bronze – despite running with Covid.

After the race, a spokesperson for the USA Track & Field said: “We can confirm that Noah Lyles tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, August 6th.

“In response, the USOPC and USATF swiftly enacted all necessary protocols to prioritise his health, the well-being of our team, and the safety of fellow competitors.

“Our primary commitment is to ensure the safety of Team USA athletes while upholding their right to compete.

“After a thorough medical evaluation, Noah chose to compete tonight. We respect his decision and will continue to monitor his condition closely.

“As an organisation, we are rigorously adhering to CDC, USOPC, and IOC guidelines for respiratory illnesses to prevent the spread of illness among team members, safeguarding their health and performance.”
