I styled a £12 Primark shirt for EVERY occasion – from the beach to your office, it’s a must for a capsule wardrobe

SEARCHES for striped shirts are up 2,900 per cent, shopping app LTK says.

Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale shows how a £12 Primark shirt can suit any occasion.

CASUAL WEEKENDER

WHEN going for a laid-back, casual look, a shirt is great over jeans and a T-shirt, and you can wear it with sleeves up or down.

It can also be an alternative to a jacket, especially given our dodgy weather.

On breezy evenings it’ll keep you warm when you may need something to cover your arms.

WORK IT OUT

THIS type of shirt is perfect for the office, too.

Tuck into wide-leg trousers and button the shirt almost to the top, leaving at least one button undone so as not to look too stuffy.

Even though it’s summer, air-conditioned offices can be chilly, so layering with a sweater vest like this can be a great option.

OUT ON THE TOWN

WHO says a blue striped shirt can’t be dressed up for an evening?

Wear it with a satin skirt and fun shoes, such as these heels from Zara.

A silver bag, statement earrings and chunky necklace can really add to the glam.

But make sure to tuck the shirt into your skirt for a sleeker silhouette.

LIFE’S A BEACH

A STRIPED shirt is a great addition to your holiday wardrobe – throw it on over a swimsuit for an easy beach look, paired with flat sandals, a raffia bag and some sunglasses and you’re good to go.

Roll the sleeves up so you’re not too warm and, to create a whole new look, add shorts over your swimsuit.

LADIES WHO LUNCH

DON’T forget you can wear your shirt under a dress, like this denim one from River Island.

It’s great if you want to wear a sleeveless dress or top, but don’t want all of your arms on show.

The shirt fabric is thin and cool, so even though you’re layering it, it won’t leave you feeling too hot and sticky during the summer months.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

IF you need an extra layer over your dress, but don’t want to reach for your jacket, opt for a shirt.

To give your look more shape, tie the front in a knot to cinch you in.

Wearing your shirt like this is perfect for the summer holidays, adding that extra layer with an item you’ve already got in your suitcase.

DOWN WITH THE KIDS

A WHITE shirt is a staple but around kids there is risk of stains. With a stripey option, these show less.

If you’re looking for an easy outfit to wear while running around after the kids, something like this is perfect.

Wear it with a T-shirt underneath or on its own.
