Disgraced BBC newsreader Huw Edwards stripped of honorary Welsh druid role

DISGRACED BBC newsreader Huw Edwards has been stripped of his honorary Welsh druid role.

The Welsh-speaking presenter was proud to wear his blue druidic outfit in his homeland’s traditional Eisteddfod.

But his membership of the Eisteddfod was yesterday terminated.

He has also lost his membership of Welsh language society Gorsedd Cymru, one of the highest accolades of public life in Wales.

The expulsions come after Edwards pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children as young as seven.

He had already lost his position as vice-president of the National Churches Trust, and Cardiff and Bangor Universities are reviewing honours granted to him in the past.

Plaques were removed from Cardiff Castle and a mural painted over in his hometown of Llangennech, Carmarthenshire.

Earlier in the week, The Sun reported on how the stepdad of the teenage boy who Edwards paid £35,000 for sexual pictures revealed the extraordinary moment he tried to confront the newsreader at a train station.

He raced there after being alerted by his partner to a secret rendezvous between the then News At Ten anchorman and her vulnerable child.

By chance, the mother saw messages from Edwards suggesting he wanted the boy to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

The stepfather told The Sun: “I was so angry. I just wanted to confront him and tell him to stop doing what he was doing.

“I didn’t even care if I got arrested — I wanted everyone to know what was happening.”
