NEW YORK (WPIX) – An American Airlines flight heading to Spain was diverted to John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday due to an overflowing bathroom, according to the FAA.

The flight departed from Dallas. It landed in New York around 10:30 p.m. after the crew reported the lavatory issue, per the FAA.

The passengers were provided hotel accommodations in New York, according to American Airlines.

“On Aug. 7, American Airlines flight 36 with service from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Madrid (MAD) diverted to New York (JFK) due to a maintenance issue. The aircraft landed normally and is scheduled to re-depart [Thursday] evening on a new aircraft. We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience,” an American Airlines spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
