Police standoff in SW Topeka ends
UPDATE: The Topeka Police Department (TPD) says officers arrested a 26-year-old Topeka man following a standoff.
According to a press release, TPD officers responded to a traffic-related call in southwest Topeka. They identified the 26-year-old man as a suspect in an aggravated burglary and auto theft investigation. Officers tried to initiate a car stop, but the man did not comply. More officers arrived to help.
The 26-year-old man was arrested without further incident on the following charges:
- Aggravated burglary
- Misdemeanor theft from a Building
- Felony theft of a motor vehicle
- Criminal use of a financial card
- Criminal Trespass
- Felony obstruction; interference with a Law Enforcement Office
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A large police presence was in a southwest Topeka neighborhood Thursday.
A 27 News reporter was at the scene of Southwest 31st Court and Southwest Oakley Avenue on Aug. 8 where multiple police vehicles were seen near an apartment complex. A standoff was in progress but ended peacefully after police, including SWAT, responded to the scene.
