Trump comes out swinging at press conference

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) -- Former president Donald Trump came out swinging in a press conference on Thursday, aiming insults at his political rival Vice President Kamala Harris. In a press conference at his Mar-A-Lago home that lasted over an hour, former president Trump hammered Vice President Harris with attacks ranging from the personal to the political.

"Kamala's record is horrible. She's a radical left person at a level that nobody's seen," Trump said.

He criticized Harris for not holding a press conference since she has become the candidate.

"She doesn't know how to do a news conference. She's not smart enough to do news conference. And I'm sorry, we need smart people to lead this country," Trump said.

Plus, he insisted the Team Trump strategy hasn't changed even though the candidate he's running against has.

"It's the same policies: open borders, weak on crime. I think she's worse than Biden," Trump said.

Out on the campaign trail, Vice President Harris delivered a message of unity to UAW labor union workers.

"We believe in our country, we believe in each other, we believe in the collective. We're not falling for these folks who are trying to divide us," Harris said.

She left her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, to take on their Republican opponents and go after Trump.

"Stay out of our business," Walz said. "He doesn't know you, he doesn't care about your family and his running mate is just as dangerous backward as he is."

While Democrats say they see energy and momentum building for the Harris-Walz ticket, Team Trump insists they're in a honeymoon phase that won't last.

"They talk about 'oh the enthusiasm.' Let me tell you, we have the enthusiasm. The Republican party and me as a candidate," Trump said.

The candidates are about to get a chance to fight it out face to face. Former president Trump says he's agreed to three debates on three different TV networks in September.

So far, the Harris campaign has only agreed to one of those debates: On September 10 on ABC News.

"I look forward to the debates, because I think we have to set the record straight," Trump said.

"Glad that he's finally agreed to a debate on September 10th. I'm looking forward to it, and I hope he shows up," Harris said.

Vice President Harris added that she is open to discussions about more debates, after the one on September 10th.
