Reports indicate that the trial of Allah-Gul Mujahid, a former member of the Afghan Parliament, by the Taliban is ongoing, with no final verdict issued yet.

Allah-Gul Mujahid returned to Kabul in July of last year and was subsequently arrested and imprisoned.

According to reports, Mujahid stated that the Taliban arrested him with “political motives.”

On May 13, the Taliban’s police command spokesperson announced that Mujahid is suspected of killing a person named “Qari Saeedullah” and will remain in custody.

Despite the statements from the Taliban’s police spokesperson, sources close to Mujahid said that the charges against him are unclear and that he was arrested “without reason and with political motives.”

Taliban members in Kabul controversially arrested Mujahid in November 2021 and later left Afghanistan.

At that time, a video of Mujahid’s arrest by the Taliban was circulated, which many described as “humiliating.”

Allah-Gul Mujahid had returned to Afghanistan at the invitation of the Taliban’s Commission for Contact with Political Figures.

The ongoing trial of Allah-Gul Mujahid, marked by political tension and uncertainty, reflects the complex and often opaque legal processes under the Taliban’s rule.

The lack of a clear verdict and the accusations of political motivation behind his arrest have raised concerns about the fairness and transparency of the judicial proceedings in Afghanistan.

As Mujahid remains in custody, the situation highlights broader issues of political repression and the targeting of former political figures by the Taliban.
