Banksy’s fifth artwork of the week confirmed above a chippy in east London

The painting shows two pelicans eating fish atop the sign of a fish bar.

Banksy confirmed the new pelican artwork in Walthamstow is his latest work to appear in London, where five have now been unveiled this week

Yet another new Banksy artwork appeared in Walthamstow today after four others were revealed this week.

The painting of what appears to be two pelicans eating fish was spotted atop the sign of Bonners Fish Bar in Walthamstow this morning.

It’s now been confirmed as authentic by the Bristol-based street artist, who shared a picture of it with his nearly 13million Instagram followers.

The artwork appears to have been painted with the help of a cherry picker that appears identical to one spotted in the early hours of Monday at the site of Banksy’s first artwork this week. All five have been in a similar style.

A painting of a goat appeared balancing on a pillar with rocks falling off at Kew Green in Richmond on Monday.

Then two elephants appeared on Edith Terrace, Chelsea, where the average price of a home reached over £750,000 in the last year alone, according to RightMove.

On Wednesday it seemed a pattern was emerging, with three monkeys painted like they were swinging across a London Overground bridge over Brick Lane.

But that trend of rising numbers was broken yesterday when a lone wolf howling towards the sky appeared on a satellite dish on Rye Lane in Peckham.

The fourth artwork was stolen just an hour after it appeared when three men used a ladder to climb the roof and remove the dish.

People have been speculating about the artworks’ meaning all week as they’ve popped up across the capital from west to east.

‘Banksy is working towards a grand reveal or a big piece in the coming days’, Banksy expert Paul Gough told Metro.

The professor and vice chancellor at Arts University Bournemouth said: ‘What’s different this time is that Banksy usually leaves it a bit of time, keeps people guessing whether a piece of work is authentically his.

‘This time he is confirming it is his work straightaway, something we have not ever seen before.

‘The question I think is how long can he sustain this both on a creative level and on a level which keeps his audience interested.’
