Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to the media at today’s press conference ahead of the match against Bayern Munich. It appears that despite rumours of an incoming Dominic Solanke, Richarlison was never in danger of being sold this summer.

Tottenham face Bayern for the second time in a week

The head coach has been back in the familiar surroundings of the club’s Hotspur Way training facility having returned from their pre-season tour.

Bayern handed the North Londoners their first defeat of pre-season last weekend with Tottenham suffering a 2-1 loss at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

While Spurs came up against Eric Dier in South Korea, there will be another familiar face at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Harry Kane also returns to N17 for the first time since his exit.

Kane swapped Tottenham for Bayern last summer on the eve of the start of the Premier League season with Spurs still yet to bring in a replacement.

The club record goalscorer reported back for pre-season with the Bundesliga giants this week and ahead of the match, along with Dier, will be presented with commemorative gifts on behalf of their former side in recognition of their years of service.

As Tottenham look to find a new number nine to fill that Harry Kane void this summer, it appears Postecoglou’s intention has always been to sign someone to compete with Richarlison, rather than replace him.

Richarlison has a place at Spurs under Postecoglou

Richarlison confirmed this week that he intends to remain at Spurs despite receiving an offer from Saudi Arabia. He told ESPN: “There has been an offer but my dream of playing for the Brazilian Selecao and in the Premier League speaks louder. The money is big but my dreams are bigger.”

Reacting to the idea of Richarlison’s uncertain future, Postecoglou told Football.London: “Not sure where uncertain future comes from, not from my behalf.

“When he was fit last year, he played all the time and played well. This is not about replacing Richy, for us it is about adding to our squad and we want to get better in every transfer window.

“Having some more quality and depth in that front third means we can protect our players more.”
