8/9/2024: Heavy rain, few storms from Debby

The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:

Still on track for widespread heavy rain from remnants of Debby, especially this afternoon & evening. The center of the system will pass through Central New York and the Adirondacks today before tracking into southern Canada overnight.

On and off light to moderate rain is expected through midday. Heavier rain really picks up this afternoon & evening.

While we will all see heavy downpours at times, they will be more consistent west of the Hudson River. 2-4" of rain may fall in the Catskills and Adirondacks, where flood potential is greatest.

As a result, a flood watch is up for Warren, Hamilton, Fulton, Montgomery, Schoharie, western Albany, western Schenectady, and western Greene counties through Saturday morning. Remember to never drive through flooder roadways.

We could all see a few embedded strong storms this afternoon. Gusty winds and/or brief tornadoes are not out of the question - always a concern on the right hand side of a passing tropical system, even one that's weakening like Debby is.

Looking dry by daybreak Saturday. The day itself looks nice, with temps peaking around 80 and breezy conditions - but remember that rivers, creeks, and streams will still be running high into the weekend in the wake of Debby's rains.

A chance for a few stray showers on Sunday and Monday, with cooler temperatures as well. Drier and warmer for Tuesday and Wednesday.
