Man arrested in West Milton on 18 weapon charges
WEST MILTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- State Police reported the arrest of a Virginia man for allegedly having weapons and other illegal items. Matthew Sanchez, 28, faces over 18 charges.
Charges
- 16 counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Two counts of criminal possession of a firearm
- Two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Unlawful purchase of body armor
- Criminal possession of a rapid-fire modification device
Troopers responded to the Naval Nuclear Laboratory at the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site in West Milton on August 3 for reports of weapons found in someone's car. The investigation found that Sanchez was allegedly in possession of a handgun, multiple illegal high-capacity magazines, a ballistic vest, and controlled substances in his car while on the property, according to State Police.
Sanchez was working at the facility as a contractor and the weapons were allegedly found during a routine security inspection. He was arrested on the scene by State Police.
Troopers say they continued their investigation by executing a search warrant at a hotel room Sanchez was renting in Saratoga Springs. In the hotel room, there were allegedly more illegal guns, high-capacity magazines, and controlled substances.
Sanchez was arraigned in Saratoga Springs Court and placed in the Saratoga County Correctional Facility.
