Downed trees suspend NJ Transit services ahead of Friday rush hour

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) -- NJ Transit alerted customers that service on two of its train lines were suspended on Friday morning with bus and PATH service replacing it.

Morris and Essex Line and Gladstone Branch rail service were suspended in both directions between Summit and Hackettstown because of downed trees in overhead wires near Summit.

Morris and Essex Midtown Direct service is also suspended with limited rail service between Summit and Hoboken.

Tickets are being cross honored on NJ Transit bus service and private carriers at Newark Penn Station as well as PATH trains at the Hoboken - 33rd Street Station. Commuters are also advised to use the Montclair-Boonton Line for service to Hackettstown. Customers can check for more alternate routes online.

Downed trees impacting train service in New Jersey are some of the early signs of damage and disruptions we’re expected to see from Debby. More strong winds are expected today with New York and New Jersey under tornado watch until 2 p.m.

A wind advisory is also in effect starting at noon Friday until 11 p.m. with gusts up to 50 mph near coastal areas.
