Watching the next Atlantic tropical wave

The National Hurricane Center and Storm Team 10 are monitoring a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic that could form into a tropical system in the next one to two weeks.

Currently, the NHC has a 60% chance for tropical development. As of today, the wave is very disorganized but is producing a large amount of showers and storms. Movement is slow to the west towards the Caribbean Sea.

As we stress with tropical disturbances this far away, the forecast uncertainty is high. Impacts to the U.S. are unknown at this time. Global models are aggressive with this wave developing into a strong tropical system but keeping it away from the Gulf of Mexico. A turn to the north is possible when it nears the Bahamas by the end of next week.

The next name on the tropical list is Ernesto.
