Morning Joe panel laughs its way through dismantling Trump's 'weird' helicopter tale

ON MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Friday morning, the panel reacted with laughter as fill-in host Katty Kay took apart Donald Trump's "weird" tale of almost dying in a helicopter crash that reportedly never happened.

During the ex-president's rambling press conference on Thursday at his Mar-a-Lago resort he used a recollection of visiting California to view wildfire damage from a helicopter as a reason to attack Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump told credulous reporters that former Bay area lawmaker Willie Brown, who was once in a relationship with Harris, and he almost died at the same time he was being regaled with stories about Harris, stating, "... he told me terrible things about her. But this is what you’re telling me, anyway, I guess. But he had a big part in what happened with Kamala. But he — I don’t know, maybe he’s changed his tune. But he — he was not a fan of hers very much, at that point.”

As Kay noted to her colleagues, the New York Times and Willie Brown have torn the story apart and pointed out it never happened.

Kay reported that Trump's helicopter ride was with former Gov. Jerry Brown (D), who is decidedly not Black like Willie Brown, as host Joe Scarborough and MSNBC regular John Heilemann could be heard hooting with laughter off-screen.

'Willie Brown isn't saying terrible things about Harris at all," Kay reported as the laughter could be heard. "In fact, he remains an avid supporter of hers."

"You understand why they use the word 'weird,'" she continued with a smirk. "The group took the helicopter to survey wildfire damage in 2018, an event where Trump would confuse the name of the town that was destroyed and also claimed the solution to California's wildfire crisis was to, quote, 'rake the forest.' Do you remember that? Raking the forest? That was one of those particular moments. The story didn't make sense: it didn't really happen, the people were different than the people he said it was."
