Portland weekend events guide: Shrek Rave, 'RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars' Live and more

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — From festivals to expos to barbecues, Portland's list of weekend happenings is never-ending.

Here are seven indoor and outdoor events you could attend through Sunday.

“Bottoms” With Jiu Jitsu Demo

When: Friday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m.
Where: Tomorrow Theater, 3530 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97202

PAM CUT’s Tomorrow Theater will host a jiu jitsu demo before screening “Bottoms,” the 2023 film about high school girls who launch an all-female fight club to impress other girls. Scout Tran from Portland’s Traction Project will lead the demo.

Ghosts of Summer

When: Friday, Aug. 9 and Saturday, Aug. 10 from 7 p.m. – 12 a.m.
Where: The Redd on Salmon Street, 831 SE Salmon St, Portland, OR 97214

Can’t wait until October for Halloween? Ghosts of Summer allows you to get in the spooky spirit ahead of time. Attendees will see special effects makeup, a mini haunted house from Scaregrounds PDX, drinks from haunted-manor-themed bar Raven’s Manor and more.

Music Millennium’s 31st Annual Customer Appreciation Bar-B-Q

When: Saturday, Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Where: Music Millennium, 3158 E Burnside St, Portland, OR 97214

One of the Pacific Northwest’s oldest record stores will hold a customer appreciation party complete with complimentary food and drink, live music and a prize wheel. Drew Martin, Mike Skill and Hippie Death Cult are among the performers.

Shrek Rave

When: Saturday, Aug. 10 at 8 p.m.
Where: Hawthorne Theatre, 1507 SE 39th Ave, Portland, OR 97214

Channel Shrek, Fiona, donkey or one of the other numerous characters featured in the animated film franchise that inspired this 21+ party. “It’s dumb, just come have fun!” event organizers said.

Portland Hot Sauce Expo

When: Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Where: Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, 1945 SE Water Ave, Portland, OR 97214

If you love all-things-spicy, OMSI is the place to be for the annual Portland Hot Sauce Expo. One $15 ticket grants attendees free hot sauce tastings, along with a view of wrestling and the Stage of Doom — where some participants will compete in extreme eating challenges.

Washington Park Summer Festival

When: Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m.
Where: Washington Park Ampitheater, 410 SW Kingston Ave, Portland, OR 97205

Portland Parks and Recreation’s Summer Free for All will continue with live performances at the International Test Rose Garden. The two-day music festival will include genres ranging from Afrobeats to Mexican folk.

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Live

When: Sunday, Aug. 11 at 8 p.m.
Where: Keller Auditorium, 222 SW Clay St, Portland, OR 97201

Some of the top performers from the Emmy-nominated reality competition “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” will bring their talents to the Rose City. “Witness firsthand the Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent it takes to be an All Star!” organizers said.
