Finnish researchers secure €3.4 million grant to develop breathing wooden facades for sustainable buildings

A pioneering project led by Aalto University has secured a €3.4 million grant from the European Innovation Council to develop a groundbreaking building material: a wooden foam façade that breathes. This innovative material could revolutionize energy efficiency in buildings and significantly reduce the construction industry’s carbon footprint.

The Archibiofoam project aims to create façade elements made from 4D-printed wood foam that can passively regulate a building’s temperature.
