Speaking exclusively to The Sun’s TV Mag, the 62-year-old star opened up about filming the beloved the programme.

She revealed: “They edit quite a lot out because I do lose it quite frequently.

“I’ll have tears rolling down my face. I get caught up in other people’s emotions so quickly. But I’ve stopped trying to hide it now because that’s just who I am – I embrace it.”

The task of restoring often sentimental items is no tall order – but it’s a responsibility taken seriously by The Repair Shop team.

Suzie said: “We are given the challenge of fixing the impossible, yet we never fail and touch wood we never will.”

She added: “I personally still get very, very nervous because every time it’s the first time I’m working with that person.

“It is very nerve-wracking waiting to see how they are going to respond to what I have done.”

Among the other familiar faces working in The Court Barn in West Sussex is Suzie’s clock-restorer brother Steven as well as the likes of carpenter Will Kirk.

The much-loved series will return to viewers’ screens on August 14.

Meanwhile, the latest instalment sees Suzie entrusted by sisters Kelly and Dawn Langley with the task of repairing a treasured family item.

It is the prestigious taxi badge presented to their late dad John when he passed The Knowledge test required of all London black-cab drivers.

John, who died in 2011, was a cabbie for 38 years and the precious badge is now falling apart.

While Suzie, who first trained in Hackney as a saddler when she was 16, added: “We love it when two family members come into the barn because they bounce off each other and all these lovely stories come out.

“Black-taxi drivers possess a phenomenal skill and I really felt like I knew their dad by the end of it.”

Suzie doesn’t underestimate emotions attached to objects from the past, as her father had his own carpentry workshop.

The Repair Shop experts

The Repair Shop premiered in 2017 and sees family heirlooms restored for their owners by numerous experts with a broad range of specialisms. Jay Blades acts as the foreman, with a talented team at work in the restoration process. Let's take a look at some of them.

  • Jay Blades: Foreman of The Repair Shop and Furniture Restorer
  • Will Kirk: Carpenter, Cabinet Maker and Wood Painter
  • Steve Fletcher: Clock Restorer
  • Suzie Fletcher: Saddle Maker and Leather Worker
  • Dominic Chinea: Metal Worker and Signs Restorer
  • Sonnaz Nooranvary: Upholstery Restorer
  • Amanda Middleditch and Julie Tatchell: Soft-toy Restorers
  • Kirsten Ramsay: Ceramics Conservator
  • Lucia Scalisi: Painting Conservator
  • Brenton West: Antique Photography Specialist and Silversmith

She explained: “We were sorting out the house after Mum and Dad died, and me and Steve walked into Dad’s workshop and it was covered in cobwebs, like Miss Havisham’s house in Dickens’ Great Expectations.

“Time had stood still. Dad’s tools were on his bench where he had last left them. It was very, very emotional.

“Now every one of his tools I pick up, I think of Dad.”

The Repair Shop returns on August 14 at 8pm on BBC One.
