An urgent hunt has been launched for a British passenger who has fallen overboard off a cruise ship.

Croatian authorities have confirmed a ‘young Brit’ went missing from the Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas ship early today, and hasn’t been seen since.

Several ships helped join the search, with passengers being awoken with an emergency message blaring across the cruise.

Nicole Bullock wrote online: ‘Woken up on the cruise ship around 3.40am to the emergency message ‘Oscar Oscar Oscar off the port side’. Man overboard.

‘Been watching the rescue efforts off my balcony all day, hoping for a positive outcome.’

A search and rescue operation is being carried out on the island of Jabuka.

The ship is reportedly on a seven-day Greece-Croatia route which departs on August 3.

In March a Scottish tourist died after falling overboard from a cruise ship.

Liam Jones, 23, was last seen on the deck of the MSC Euribia on March 16 as it set off from Southampton to Amsterdam in The Netherlands.

It’s now been revealed Liam messaged his wife Sophia Mcphee to say he was seasick that same day – and that was the last time his devastated wife heard from her.

Sophia told the Daily Record that the last time she saw her husband was March 14 when he travelled from their home to Glasgow to meet his family.

She said: ‘I feel so lost. He’s just… gone. I’m never going to see him again. I’m devastated.

‘I have so many questions, and I’m not getting any answers to what’s happened.’
