My sister is giving her baby a ‘modern version’ of our late mom Victoria’s name – people say it’s an ‘abomination’

AN AUNT-TO-BE couldn’t help but give her two cents about her sister’s unusual baby name that was inspired by their late mom.

The child’s name is meant to be a “modern version” of their mother’s name, Victoria, but people say it’s an “abomination.”

Reddit user Coradoralora was not a fan of her sister’s choice of name for her baby despite her intentions.

She shared her opinions in the Tragedeigh forum, where people share names that are “deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique.”

In the post, she explained that their mother, Victoria, who went by Vickie, passed away when they were teenagers.

BABY BOND

Their mother died from ovarian cancer when she was 13 and her sister was 17.

As a result, they planned to honor her in a special way when they were older.

“We have always talked about the first one of us to have a girl would name her after our mother,” she said.

Cora explained that her sibling was about five months pregnant and found out that she was having a girl two weeks ago.

“I asked her if she was going to name her after our mother because she had shared a couple of times that she wanted to honor our mother, but didn’t particularly like our mother’s name,” she said.

Cora shared how her sister wanted to give her unborn daughter a “modern version” of their mother’s name.

She planned on naming her Vixorya and calling her Vix or Vixie for short.

The Reddit user noted that she personally loves the name Victoria and wants to use it but has “zero prospects” in the dating department.

“I don’t see myself having a baby anytime soon,” she said.

PUBLIC OPINION

Redditors didn’t hold back and gave their unfiltered opinions.

“Forget bullying in school. Ask her if this is a name that she should have on a resume in 25 years?” a Redditor inquired.

“Or have her go order Starbucks and use that name,” another replied.

A Reddit user even chimed in to say that “every parent considering a tragedeigh should have to do this.”

“Wish she’d pick something like mom’s favorite flower, or favorite color, or vacation location. Anything other than this abomination of a name,” a third wrote.

“I would say you can still use Victoria. Your sister definitely isn’t using it,” someone else advised.

“This! OP [original poster], Vixorya is not Victoria, but even if it were, you could still use Victoria,” someone else added.

Others found the name funny.

“Vix vaporub. It’s a no from me,” one commented.

“Talk to your doctor about whether Vixorya is right for you,” another joked.
