Bangladesh unrest raises concerns about NE militants

Recent turmoil in Bangladesh has sparked concerns that militant groups from Northeast India could seek refuge there. Under Sheikh Hasina's regime, these groups, including factions of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), were expelled from Bangladesh and relocated to Myanmar. With a long border shared between India and Bangladesh, and ongoing instability in Bangladesh, there is apprehension that insurgent outfits may exploit the situation. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has highlighted the need to secure the border to prevent such groups from using Bangladesh as a base.
