Carson Benge Shines in Bridge League

Mets first-round pick Carson Benge debuted in the Bridge League Saturday and didn’t disappoint.

The lefty bat collected two hits in the Bridge League, including a 99-mile-per-hour single and 102-mile-per-hour double. Both hits came against Cardinals lefty Yadiel Batista.

The exit velocities and instant success are encouraging signs for Benge, who the Mets selected 19th overall this July.

Benge was touted as a contact bat with “great raw power” by area scout Trey Cobb, and showcased both skills on Saturday afternoon. Benge slashed 335/.444/.665 with 24 homers in 61 games as a junior at Oklahoma State University.

Another bat that showcased their bat in Saturday’s matchup was first baseman Corey Collins. The University of Georgia product drove in a run with a baseknock, displaying his bat-to-ball skills after slashing .354/.574/.772/1.346 in the Southeastern Conference.

The Bridge League is designed for recent Major League Baseball draft picks a taste in the pros. The Mets faced the Cardinals on Saturday, featuring a lineup of Trey SnyderEli Serrano IIINick Roselli, and other 2024 draft picks. Benge batted leadoff and Collins fifth.
