Top-40 prospect Shon Abaev breaks down upcoming visits

By CHARLIE PARENT

NEW YORK Shon Abaev, a four-star in the class of 2025, made a statement at Friday’s UA Next Elite 24 scrimmage as one of the top performers on the floor.

The 6-foot-7 guard impressed with his long frame for a natural point guard. Abaev was the primary ball handler for Team Ice, scoring from all three-levels and creating separation for quality jump-shots, even with tough defense.

Abaev seemed most comfortable going downhill, showing off a unique vertical ability to attack the rim and score. Aside from his scoring, he showed that he’s a willing playmaker, and looks to pass to create the open shot more than often not. His long frame allows him to be an active defender, and create problems for smaller opposing ball-handlers.

He recently scheduled six official visits, as the list includes  Dayton (Aug. 23-24), Syracuse (Aug. 30-31), USC (Sept. 13-14), Auburn (Sept. 20-21), Cincinnati (Oct. 2-3) and Maryland (Oct. 8-9), he confirmed.

Abaev previewed three of his upcoming trips after the scrimmage:

Syracuse: “I’s a good relationship. I’m really close with the coach, Coach Red [Autry]. He’s a great guy, [a] great coach, and played in the NBA. He’s given me great advice not just as a player but as a person as well.”

USC: “He has been talking to me for a while. He’s seen me when I was younger and said he’s always liked my game and that when I get older he’ll recruit me and he’s recruiting me heavy now”

Cincinnati: “He’s [Wes Miller] a great coach and I feel like I have a really good connection with him. I like the way he coaches, he’s very energetic with his team and that’s something I like to see.”
