'Big ruling': Elections expert explains Trump's 'stinging defeat' in swing state lawsuit

Donald Trump's campaign just suffered a major loss in its attempt to disqualify mail-in ballots in a swing state, democracy Docket leader Marc Elias said over the weekend.

Elias, speaking on Democracy Watch on YouTube Saturday, explained how Republicans lost a lawsuit in Nevada by a state judge.

"Big ruling out of Nevada," he said. "Donald Trump and the Republican party have been trying to block mail-in voting every possible way they can."

Elias goes on to report that it "took the form of two lawsuits against the state of Nevada, both dealing with the question of mail-in ballots that are received a day or so after election day but were clearly mailed before election day, whether those ballots should count."

He added, "They just suffered a stinging, complete defeat in Carson City before a state judge."

Elias goes on to say that this lawsuit goes hand-in-hand with one that was recently defeated in Mississippi. The intention, he said, is to create a conflict between dueling jurisdictions, which will enable to Supreme Court to take up the issue.

"They appealed before the Fifth Circuit," he said. "In the meantime, they are furiously trying to get other courts to try to adopt this rule because they desperately want to disqualify these mail ballots before we get to election day.

The expert further added, "This is one of the big issues everyone needs to pay attention to before election day."
