He smashed the guilty club onto the ground in disgust, meaning they both lost their heads.

Burns finished with a double bogey on the ninth to move four shots behind leader Hideki Matsuyama.

To add insult to injury, he was forced to play the back nine without his driver.

The golfer managed three birdies and as many bogeys to finish on ten-under.

Fans took to social media to have their say.

One wrote: “Some anger management couldn’t hurt.”

Another added: “What a terrible move. How many millions on the line in the playoffs?”

A third joked: “If i did this I’d play 17 holes without a driver.”

Matsuyama is running away with things on the final day.

The Japanese ace would be delighted to secure victory after having his passport stolen.

Matsuyama reportedly had his documents nicked at a London airport just days after winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

He stopped over in the UK as he flew from France to America for this week’s tournament in Memphis, Tennessee.

But his journey to the States suffered a setback at an unspecified London airport.

Golf Digest Japan reports that Matsuyama’s passport was stolen, with caddie Shota Hayato and coach Mikihito Kuromiya also being robbed of their travel documents.
