Rep. Moulton says price-gouging plan reveals ‘priorities’ of Harris administration

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) said Vice President Harris’s price-gouging plan reveals what her “priorities” would be as president while acknowledging there are “still a lot of details to work out,” amid backlash to the plan’s rollout.

Moulton downplayed the significance of the policy in an interview on NewsNation's "The Hill Sunday" when asked whether her newly announced plan is mostly campaign rhetoric or an agenda that could materialize into real policy for a future administration.

“I think this is basically a statement of vision at this point,” Moulton told host Chris Stirewalt. “I mean, she's building the plane as she flies it right now, jumping into this campaign so late.”

“But what you hear from Vice President Harris is what her priorities are, and she realizes that bringing down grocery prices is really important for middle class Americans, middle class Americans like myself. We see the prices at the grocery store, our stores are out of control. And she knows that's an important thing for American consumers.”

Moulton distinguished Harris's vision from Trump's, saying the plan was not in its final form.

“Trump wants to increase the profits of oil companies. He wants to cut taxes for billionaires. That's his vision for improving the economy of America. Harris's vision is very different, but I think on both sides, we still have a lot of details to work out,” he said.

Harris on Friday revealed several proposals as part of her economic plan if she wins the presidency in November.

The proposals range from cutting taxes, boosting housing construction and expanding the child tax credit. However, her proposal for a federal ban on grocery price gouging has received backlash from pundits across the political spectrum. The Washington Post Editorial Board dismissed the policies as "populist gimmicks" devoid of substance.
