When MS Dhoni Criticized Indian players- Won’t play World cup for Their Fitness and Fielding

During his days, MS Dhoni was the calm and composed captains as India’s team leader. He used to supress his feelings on the field and alwsys supported other players. Players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin and many others have been improved in their game only because of dhoni’s leadership skills. Dhoni was given the nickname of ‘Captain Cool’ during his days in international cricket.

Still, there have been a few moments where he has gotten angry. Former Indian coach R Sridhar, in one of his book called ‘Coaching Beyond My Days’, has written that MS Dhoni was once furious after an ODI between India and West Indies in 2014. Dhoni gave a statement to the players that they wouldn’t be selected for 2015 World Cup if their fielding and fitness standards did not meet the expectations, the team would not be able to play the 2015 World Cup.

“We were playing West Indies at the Feroz Shah Kotla in October 2014- a match we won comfortably but where we were absolutely shoddy on the field. MS was furious at what he perceived to be lack of effort and dipping fitness standards. ‘I feel quite a few things are missing. We have to pull our socks up. We have not played to our potential. This game is a crucial eye-opener for us. We are on the winning side, but we could have lost this,'” Sridhar wrote.

“In the dressing room, he ripped the team to shreds and gave them an ultimatum, making it clear that if they didn’t meet certain standards in fielding and fitness, they would not make the World Cup cut, no matter what name they answer to.”

India was undefeated in the league and won all 6 matches. The team made a one-sided win over Bangladesh in the quarter-final, but eventually lost to Australia in the semifinals.
