Whether your kid’s back-to-school is around the corner or you’re already in the midst of all of the stress, know you’re not alone and that Tori Spelling is also feeling the back-to-school stress. Per a study from Motherly, it’s been reported that more than half of parents believe the back-to-school season is incredibly stressful. But recently, Spelling collaborated with KIND Snacks on a joint mission to make back-to-school season less stressful.

Spelling is a lot of things: best-selling author, beloved actress, podcast host; and of course, a mom of five! She has five children named Liam Aaron (born in March 2007), Stella Doreen (born in June 2008), Hattie Margaret (born in Oct 2011), Finn Davey (born in Aug 2012), and Beau Dean McDermott (born in March 2017).

Five kids, multiple school drop-offs and pickups, and a bunch of hobbies to keep up with; that’s Spelling’s life as a mom.

With a hectic back-to-school time every year, it’s no wonder Spelling (and Kristin Cavallari) are partnering with KIND for their Kid’s soft-baked bars to become the school-friendly snack choice. (It’s made with 100% whole-grain oats and has 5g of protein, so you can relax knowing your kids will have a healthy snack amid it all)!

Amid this campaign, SheKnows got to chat exclusively with Spelling about why she partnered with KIND, her tips and tricks to help make back-to-school time simpler, and how she’s raising her kids to be kind.

See the exclusive interview with Tori Spelling below:

SheKnows: What made you work with KIND?

Tori Spelling: My family has always loved KIND’s snacks, they’re always in our house! The new KIND Kids bars are a hit for us since they’re school-friendly, which makes it easy and stress-free when choosing what snacks I give to my kids. When KIND approached me about this idea to shine light on a stressful time of year all parents can relate to with a nostalgic and comedic twist, I was so excited! Nostalgic throwbacks are so in right now, we had a great time playing off of my times as Donna Martin. As you’ve seen in the spot, this campaign is all about how parents are the ones who are most stressed out about back-to-school, not our kids. We’re the ones who are doing all the shopping, figuring out what snacks to pack, sorting the kids’ schedules, all that.

SK: As a mom of five, do you have any tricks to handle the stress of back-to-school season?

TS: Transitioning from summer to a back-to-school routine is so tough, especially for me as a mom of five. I think parents everywhere can relate that it’s overwhelming to have to choose what to shop for, plus also juggling multiple school drop-offs and pickups. Little things like prepping my kids’ lunches in advance with snacks I know they will enjoy making a big difference in getting back to the routine.

SK: What is something fellow moms warned you about back to school time? Or things you warn moms about back-to-school time?

TS: The prep time! I try my best to prep ahead the night before because doing it all in the morning before school drop-offs is overwhelming.

SK: What words of wisdom do you give to your kids, who are nervous about going back to school?

TS: I teach my kids to always be kind. Lead with kindness, and everything else will fall into place. Kindness is number one in our family.

SK: How does being a working mother affect back-to-school time?

TS: Working and momming is not easy, no matter what. Especially with 5 kiddos and 3 different schools. I try to manage it all but also try to go easy on myself, knowing I’m doing the best I can. My oldest daughter Stella is so helpful with the younger ones. She’s a true mentor and mini-me. I’m so grateful for all my kiddos!

SK: Do you have any self-care rituals with your kids amid back-to-school time?

TS: You know I love to have a good laugh – I always believe a little humor goes a long way, especially when it comes to stressful seasons in life! Connecting with my friends, family and fans who are also going through similar situations to share a laugh is always a big help for me.

KIND

SK: What are some of the must-have products parents should snag for back-to-school season?

TS: It really is all about the snacks! Having snacks my kids will love, and I feel good about saves me so much time. KIND’s new Kids soft-baked bars really hit the spot, love that they’re school-friendly with no tree nuts and peanuts, and what kid doesn’t love blueberry muffins and chocolate chips?

SK: What is your biggest parenting win?

TS: Seeing them happy. And, knowing at the heart of it I’m creating and raising kids that lead with kindness.
