Boy, 10, stabbed to death while playing football in Spain

A killer is on the run after stabbing a child to death in Spain.

The 10-year-old boy had been playing football with friends in the small town of Mocejon, an hour drive south of Madrid, around 9.45am this morning.

He is understood to have been on the sidelines of the playing field when he was approached by a masked man.

The attacker had previously been chasing another group before turning his attention to the boy’s ground of friends.

With his face hidden behind a scarf, the man then launched a fatal attack on the boy before fleeing in a grey Ford Mondeo, police said.

The boy, who collapsed in the Toledo town’s Angel Cardio sports centre, died a the scene, emergency responders said.

His family is understood to have been informed of his death, but he has not yet been named.

Dozens of Civil Guard patrols and a helicopter are involved in the manhunt for the attacker

There is no indication of a motive for the attack at this stage.

Emiliano García-Page, regional president of Castilla-La Mancha, took to X today to share his shock a the morning’s events.

He said: ‘I express my condolences and my sympathy to the family of the minor and also the hope that the perpetrator of the events is found soon and brought to court as soon as possible.

‘These situations are unacceptable and must result in a just punishment.’
