News and Notes: Hot and Cold Guardians Cold Again

News and Notes for Sunday, August 18th, 2024

If you score one run off Aaron Civale and Freddy Peralta in 12 innings, you deserve to lose, and that's what the Guardians did, 2-1 on Saturday.

There are many frustrating aspects to the Guardians play the last six weeks, but I remain confident they'll figure out how to be consistent again. Steven Kwan is in an adjustment period, one he has always come out of. Sequencing of hits is an issue. The starting rotation has finally somewhat stabilized bpitcher. Williams is still a young, learning pitcher and Ben Lively's margin for error will always be slim. The bullpen finally had some regression (Nick Sandlin looks dominant again, though!).

Tanner Bibee and the Guardians bullpen looked good. Josh Naylor homered. Let's try this again this afternoon.

My biggest question is why the Guardians aren't making at least one move to help against right-handed pitching? This is a clear need and Daniel Schneemann and Tyler Freeman are obvious players able to be demoted. Sure, there are questions about the potential replacements (Kyle Manzardo, George Valera, Chase DeLauter) but we're trying to win a division here, folks. Fortune favors the bold.

Matt Dallas and I talked about this a little on the latest Disgusting Baseball Pod.

The Twins and Royals both won. So... that's a bummer.
