Militants blind Bus driver in Baghlan province

A driver in Baghlan province has reported that militants shot out one of his eyes at a checkpoint in the Dushi district. The driver shared details of the incident in a video on Sunday, August 18.

He stated that the violence was inflicted upon him “without cause” and accused the “Taliban fighters of abusing their position and mistreating him.” This incident highlights ongoing issues with militant conduct.

The individual, identified as Qudrat, was driving a passenger bus belonging to a private transportation company.

According to sources, Qudrat was en route from Mazar-e-Sharif to Kabul on Friday night when he was stopped near the Taliban security commander in Dushi district. The militants assaulted him and injured his eye after accusing him of speeding.

Reports of Taliban mistreatment of citizens have surfaced before. On August 13, the human rights organization “Ravandari” reported an increase in cases of forced disappearances, torture leading to death, arbitrary detentions, and “cruel and inhumane” punishment by the Taliban in the first six months of 2024.

This incident underscores the growing concern over human rights abuses under Taliban control. The escalating violence and abuses reported by various organizations reflect a troubling trend that raises serious questions about the safety and security of civilians in Taliban-controlled areas.

Urgent international attention and action are needed to address these violations and protect human rights.
