Zabiullah Mujahid seeks to mediate between Pakistan and TTP

Zabiullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban administration, has expressed the Taliban government’s willingness to mediate discussions between Pakistan and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

According to reports, Mr. Mujahid made these remarks on Saturday, August 17, during an interview with Independent Urdu.

Mr. Mujahid stated that media allegations have led to distrust between the two countries. He emphasized that if the Pakistani government has concerns regarding the presence of the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), they should communicate these issues to the Kabul government.

The spokesperson described the issue of the Pakistani Taliban as a “domestic matter” for Pakistan and added that, if desired, the Taliban regime could act as a mediator to facilitate talks with the Pakistani Taliban.

It is noteworthy that the Taliban officials have rejected Pakistan’s claims of the presence and activities of the Pakistani Taliban in Afghanistan, calling these claims baseless.

Previously, Mr. Mujahid had emphasized that the Taliban would not allow Afghan soil to be used against other countries, particularly its neighbors.

Despite the Taliban’s offer to mediate, the success of such efforts remains uncertain. Past negotiations between Pakistan and the TTP, hosted by the Taliban two years ago, ended without a tangible outcome. The persistence of this issue highlights the ongoing complexities of regional security and diplomacy.

Pakistan and the Taliban government face significant challenges in addressing these concerns and building mutual trust. This situation is compounded by increased attacks by militants, including the TTP, in Pakistan, which the Taliban allegedly support.
