Bend nonprofit director arrested, accused of selling meth from home
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The executive director of a Bend nonprofit was arrested at his home Thursday after officials say he allegedly distributed "commercial quantities of methamphetamine."
According to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, investigators found 58-year-old Gary Lee Hewitt was selling the methamphetamine from his home in Redmond, which authorities say is located within 1,000 feet of two different schools.
Detectives also learned Hewitt is the executive director for the Bend location of the non-profit St. Vincent De Paul.
After obtaining a warrant, DCSO deputies, detectives and investigators from the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement team (CODE) searched Hewitt's home, finding methamphetamine, scales, packaging material and money.
Hewitt was then arrested and lodged at the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Adult Jail on charges of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, as well as unlawful delivery of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school.
