NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) -- A woman was fatally shot by her ex-husband in New Iberia last night and police are currently investigating, authorities said.

Terry James Sr., 47, was arrested on the charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.

The New Iberia Police Department said they responded to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of Walton Street on Saturday at 8:50 p.m.

Officers said when they arrived at the scene, James surrendered in the street. The victim was found inside of the home suffering from gunshot wounds. 

James was identified as the ex-husband of the victim. She was pronounced deceased on-site.

James was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
