Manchester United are looking to sign a new defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes.

Paris Saint-Germain ace Manuel Ugarte has been identified as the priority target, but the club are currently not in a position to meet the demands of the French champions.

Les Parisiens want £51 million for the Uruguay international, but the Red Devils remain optimistic of securing a discount. Agent Jorge Mendes is working hard on the move.

While this happens, the club may need to offload a midfielder from the squad to free up space and funds, and McTominay seems the likely candidate to head for the exit door.

United value their midfielder at £30 million which appears a stumbling block.

McTominay could still leave for a new holding midfielder
