My back-to-school DIY saves me from having to throw my kids’ artwork away – I can keep everything without it piling up

Angie Becker (@angiebecker_) shared the parenting tip in a viral TikTok video.

“Instead of throwing your kids’ schoolwork in a big plastic bin, I highly suggest making a scrapbook,” she said.

“Like most moms of kindergarteners, I didn’t want to throw away anything. I wanted to keep absolutely everything, and doing it this way allowed me to do that.”

She explained that the scrapbook also proved to be a great way to collect children’s writing and education progress.

By the end of the academic year, she had accumulated all her kids’ math and writing samples.

Angie structured her scrapbook to be interactive, with a flip-up card portion that preserves all the gifts and cards her child had received.

She added that additional pockets at the end of the scrapbook allowed her to store her child’s graduation pamphlets and report cards.

While Angie shared how she designed the scrapbook to work best for her, moms can tailor the DIY to their needs.

Many thanked her for the creative and wholesome project idea.

“As a teacher of little ones, this melted my heart because we truly plan out all the work in hopes parents appreciate it. Amazing,” said one commenter.

“Omg I love this! I’m currently doing this with my three boys and I love how each one is turning out,” said another.

“Thank you for this idea! My babies are starting school this year,” said a third.

Some added ideas to source supplies and re-purpose the project idea as well.

“I’m totally going to be on the lookout for unused scrapbooks at yard sales and thrift stores,” said one commenter.

“It’s beautiful! I have two [children] under two. Thank you.”

“I’m not as crafty, so I put mine into clear sheets and put it in a binder,” said another.

“I started years ago as mine [are] about to graduate.”

While some felt that the project might be too time-consuming for them, Angie added that the DIY doubled as a fun bonding activity for parents and their kids.

“I really want to do this, but I just don’t have the patience,” sighed one viewer.

“It only took my daughter and [me] one night to complete it!” Angie replied.

“It’s a lot easier than it looks.”
