Is this acclaimed Brooklyn metal bar closing its doors for good?

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11)— Did the acclaimed metal bar Saint Vitus in Greenpoint close its doors for good?

Since its founding in 2011, Saint Vitus has been a cornerstone of the metal and rock music scene in Greenpoint. The bar hinted at closure in a cryptic post on its official Instagram on Saturday, but it is unclear if it may be indefinite.

“Saint Vitus Bar to be continued…, read a post on the bar’s official Instagram. “Thank you to everyone who was a part of it. ????”

Hundreds of people commented on the bar's social media accounts, thanking the owners for the beautiful times many had at the bar since its founding in 2011.

Saint Vitus hosted many notable performances, such as when Nirvana was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The bar hosted a surprise after-party with performances from Joan Jett, Lorde, and Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon, playing homage to the Grunge band, which ended at 4 a.m.  The Rolling Stone reported in 2014.

According to the bar's website, Saint Vitus hosted Megadeth, Anthrax, Babes in Toyland, and other acts.

“St Vitus was like a home away from home for me,” wrote Peter Catsoulis on the bar’s closure announcement on Facebook. “I probably went to 50-100 shows there the last four years. Whatever the future holds, you guys always have my support.”

PIX11 News reached out to the bar to clarify if the bar was moving or closing for good.

“We will get back to you during working hours on Monday,” a spokesperson said.

Google lists the bar as temporarily closed, so details of their closure remain unclear.
