Lafayette police are searching for the suspect in a hit-and-run

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Police are currently searching for a suspect in a hit-and-run on Sunday morning.

The Lafayette Police Department responded to a call at 1 a.m. on Sunday morning at Louisiana Avenue and Webb Street where a vehicle had hit someone on a bicycle.

Lafayette City Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux witnessed the incident.

Boudreaux said he heard a thump, and then once he passed, he saw the victim crawling in the street. He immediately called the police.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

After seeing the scene, Boudreaux said the victim is lucky to be alive. Boudreaux believes that excessive speeding is to blame for this incident. He estimated the driver was going 80 to 90 miles per hour.

Police said the unknown vehicle pictured below is involved in the hit and run.

Boudreaux urges whoever is responsible to come forward and be held accountable for their actions.

If you have any information on this incident or the vehicle, you are asked to please get in touch with the Lafayette Police Department at 337-291-8600 or Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
