‘I’m sure’ – Postecoglou sheds light on his plans for Mikey Moore this season at Spurs

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Mikey Moore will stay at Tottenham this season and the winger will get opportunities to impress for the first team.

Moore became the youngest player to represent Tottenham in Premier League history when he was handed his debut by Postecoglou towards the end of last season.

The 17-year-old, who penned his first professional contract with the Lilywhites last week, impressed in pre-season, showing just why there is so much excitement surrounding him at Hotspur Way.

There have been many calls for Postecoglou to throw the teenager in at the deep end, with former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp suggesting that the youngster could be Tottneham’s Lamine Yamal (Football.London).

It has been reported by several journalists over recent weeks that the Lilywhites do not intend to send Moore out on loan before the transfer deadline (Tom Barclay).

Mikey Moore will get chances at Spurs

This has now been confirmed by Postecoglou himself, with the Spurs boss admitting that the youngster is already making his mark with the senior side.

When asked about Moore, the Australian told Spurs Play: “You always like to see that come through [at the club] and it’s a credit to him and his family that he’s still a very young man but already making a mark at our football club.

“I’ve said all along, he’s made a really positive impression on us back end of last year and he’s had a really strong summer with us. The plan is to keep him in the first team and allow him to develop.

“There’s still U21s games where he can play, but even last year he missed a large part of the year with injuries, he didn’t play much in the U21s. For us, having him part of the first team, I’m sure he’ll play some first-team games as well. I think that’ll be important.”

Moore will likely be a regular in the Under-21 set-up this season and might get a few first-team opportunities in the Europa League group stages.

However, just training with the senior squad at Hotspur Way for the next year will significantly fast-track his development.
